Fisherwomen of the Aegean Project

Fisherwomen of the Aegean Project, project helping women who fish in the Datça-Bozburun Special Environmental Protection Area to continue in their profession, and also raising awareness of the principles of sustainable fishing and issues of conservation versus use. The project, started by the Mediterranean Protection Association in 2013 with support from the United Nations Development Program, is also supported by the Vehbi Koç Foundation.

As part of the project, local fisherwomen are given material support and education on topics such as fishing in marine protected areas, marine ecosystems, fisherwomen in Turkey and the wider world, microcredit applications, safety on small fishing boats, and cooperatives.
