Europa Nostra Awards, award program which encourages excellence in conservation initiatives. It was established in 1978 by Europa Nostra, a federation of organizations working to protect cultural heritage, which includes 250 civil society organizations from 50 countries across Europe. Europa Nostra was founded in 1963 and was recognized by the European Commission as a European umbrella organization for conservation in 1998. The rewards system it has coordinated across Europe since 1978, was augmented by the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage in 2002, following a decision of the European Commission.
In 1988, Europa Nostra gave recognition to the Sadberk Hanım Museum for the additional museum building, the Sevgi Gönül Building, which was “faithfully restored, renovated and reopened as a museum of archaeological works”. In 1990, the Koç Holding AŞ Headquarters at Nakkaştepe also received an honorable mention for being “faithfully restored and renovated”.
