Turkish Mathematics Association, a civil society organization founded in 1948 to ensure the development and proliferation of disciplines relating to mathematics in Turkey. Its activities aim to increase the contribution of mathematics and mathematicians to economic, social and technological matters and to increase the appeal of mathematics education in secondary and higher education, while at the same time improving teaching standards and effectiveness. The
Vehbi Koç Foundation funded the 2017 edition of the association’s semi-academic publication Matematik Dünyası (World of Mathematics), which addresses high school levels and above, and sponsored the participation of academics in conferences in related fields.
The association was founded by a group of mathematicians from Istanbul University and Istanbul Technical University, including professors Cahit Arf, Nüzhet Gökdoğan, Mustafa İnan and Nazım Terzioğlu. It also provides scholarships for the mathematicians of the future and represents Turkey at the International Mathematical Union and the European Mathematical Society.
