Demirseren, Atakan (b. July 7 1939, Mersin - d. May 13 1998, Istanbul), educator and director. He served as chief assistant director of Koç High School (see Koç School) between 1988 and 1998.
After completing undergraduate studies in mathematics and physics at the Istanbul University Faculty of Sciences, he received a master’s degree in educational sciences from the American University of Beirut. He worked at the Turkish Naval Academy in Istanbul as a teacher of mathematics and physics (1961-72), branch manager for education (1972-75), and planning and research manager and department head of sciences (1975-81). Following on from this, he worked as branch manager for education at the Turkish Naval Forces (1981-82) and head of teaching at the Naval Academy (1982-84). From 1985 to 1988, he was an educational consultant for the foundation of Koç High School. When the school opened in 1988, he became chief deputy director and continued in this role until his death in 1998. After his death, the school’s auditorium was named after him and the Atakan Demirseren Mathematics Competition was established in his memory.
