Shields, (Harvey) Gerald, (b. November 27, 1937, Seaford, Virginia, USA), educator and administrator. Served as director of the Koç High School (see Koç School) from 1992 to 1996.
After obtaining a history degree from Washington & Lee University in 1960, he completed a history master’s at Tulane University, New Orleans in 1962 and a further master’s in education at Harvard University (1967-69). Appointed as director of Koç High School in 1992, a post he would keep until 1996, Shields also served as a school counselor. It was in 1994, during his tenure as director, that the International Baccalaureate (IB) program was introduced in Turkey. The school’s first batch of pupils that had studied for the baccalaureate from Middle School preparatory onwards graduated in 1995.
After leaving Koç High School, Shields served as headmaster in schools in Luxembourg, Germany, Venezuela, the USA and Indonesia.
