Tosun, Kemal

Tosun, Kemal (b. 1923, Chania, Crete, Greece, d. September 18, 1993, Istanbul), economist and academician who served on the Vehbi Koç Foundation Board of Directors from 1975 to 1978.

In 1946, he obtained a degree from the Istanbul University (IU) Faculty of Economics, where he took up a position as assistant lecturer in Business Administration in 1948. He received a doctorate in 1951, and continued with postgraduate studies in business and public administration at the London School of Economics, UK (1952-53) and the University of Minnesota University, USA (1953-54). In 1959, he was appointed associate professor in the Deparment of Business Management at the IU Department of Economics, and following his research at Harvard University, USA (1961-62) he became a professor in 1964. In 1968, Professor Tosun moved to the IU Faculty of Business Department of Management and Organization, where he served as dean for several years (1974-77, 1985-88 and 1988-89). Between 1977 and 1989, he was the director of the Institute of Business Administration. His principal publications include İşletme ve Müesseselerde Sevk ve İdare (Direction and Management in Businesses and Institutions; 1961), İşletme Yönetimi, Genel Esaslar (Business Management, General Principles; 1966) and Yönetim ve İşletme Politikası (Management and Administration Policies; 1990).
