Yenişehirlioğlu, Filiz (b. February 10, 1949), academic. She has served as the director of VEKAM since 2014.
After completing her secondary education at the American College for Girls (see Robert College) in Arnavutköy, she went on to study archeology and history of art at Sorbonne University in Paris, graduating in 1971. She received a master’s degree (1973) and a doctorate (1981) in Islamic archeology and art history from the same university. From 1975 to 1986, she was a member of the teaching staff at Hacettepe University (HU). In 1986, she traveled to the USA and worked as a visiting lecturer on the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at Harvard University. In 1990, Prof. Yenişehirlioğlu became a professor at HU and continued to spend her academic life lecturing on Ottoman art and architecture. From 1995 to 1998, she was a visiting fellow at the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Cambridge University, UK. After returning to Turkey, she taught at the HU Department of Archeology and Art History until 2003. In 2003, she transferred to Başkent University, where she founded the Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture and became dean. In 2014, while serving as a member of the teaching staff at Koç University Department of Archeology and Art History, she was made director of VEKAM, which is affiliated with the university.
In addition to her academic duties, Prof. Yenişehirlioğlu also served as a member of the UNESCO Cultural Heritage National Commission (1987–92 and 2002–2006) and was president of the Association of Art Historians in Anatolia (2001–03). She was made a Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture in 1991 and received the Italian Adelaide Ristori Award in 1992. In addition to other publications, Prof. Yenişehirlioğlu has written the following books: Les grandes lignes de l'évolution du programme décoratif en céramique des édifices ottomans au cours du XVIème siècle (1985), and Türkiye Dışında Osmanlı Mimari Yapıtları (Ottoman Architectural Works Outside of Turkey; 1989). Books she has produced in collaboration with other writers include: Ali Saim Ülgen Çizimleri ile Mimar Sinan ve Yapıları (Mimar Sinan and His Buildings with Drawings by Ali Saim Ülgen; 1989) and Mersin Evleri (Mersin Houses; 1995). A study edited by Prof. Yenişehirlioğlu, titled Akdeniz Uygarlıkları Sanatı (The Art of Mediterranean Civilizations) was published in 2012.
