Istanbul Jazz Festival

Istanbul Jazz Festival, annual festival with an emphasis on jazz, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts every July since 1994. The festival gives Turkey’s music lovers the opportunity to watch world-famous jazz artists, and also includes the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award for artists who have made a major contribution to the development of jazz in Turkey. At the 23rd Istanbul Jazz Festival in 2016,the Vehbi Koç Foundation funded almost 200 Syrian refugees living in Turkey to watch Damon Albarn and the Orchestra of Syrian Musicians. Similarly, at the following year’s festival, almost 300 Syrian refugees were sponsored to attend a concert given by the Syrian Women’s Choir, which is made up of Syrian female migrants living in Turkey. In 2018, 200 refugees living in Istanbul were given the opportunity to watch Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters at the closing concert of the 25th Istanbul Jazz Festival.
