Adar, Yasemin

Adar, Yasemin (b. December 6, 1991, Balıkesir), European and World Champion national wrestler, who received the Mustafa V. Koç Sports Award in 2018.

Adar, who came from a family of wrestling enthusiasts, first became involved in sport at school, when she joined the school athletics team. After finishing high school, she studied at the Balıkesir University School of Physical Education and Sports and began wrestling at the Balıkesir Municipal Sports Center. While competing professionally as a wrestler with the Edirne Trakya Sports Club, Adar also worked as a physical education teacher in Niğde. In 2013, she won the gold medal in the 72 kg category at the Mersin Mediterranean Games. In Riga in 2016, she became the first Turkish female wrestler to win a gold medal at the European championships. She also won the European Championship in 2017, 2018 and 2019. At the World Wrestling Championships in Paris in 2017, Adar won a gold medal in the 75 kg category, becoming the first Turkish female wrestler to be world champion.
