Bulgurlu, Bülent

Bulgurlu, Bülent (b. September 28, 1947, Ankara), engineer and director. From 2007 to 2009, he was a member of the Vehbi Koç Foundation Board of Directors representing Koç Holding, where he held the position of CEO.

Bulgurlu graduated from the Ankara State Academy for Engineering and Architecture (now Gazi University Faculty of Engineering and Architecture) in 1971 and began working as a civil engineer at Elliot Strómme in Oslo, Norway, that same year. He received a master’s degree from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology Faculty of Civil Engineering in 1973, going on to receive a PhD in 1976; he taught at the university throughout this period. After returning to Turkey, he worked as a site manager for İntes Trade and Industry Inc. from 1977 to 1979. In 1979, he began working at Garanti Construction, a Koç Holding company (Garanti Koza Construction from 1985, Garanti Koza since 2004). From 1982 to 1988, he worked as assistant general manager, going on to hold the post of general manager (1988-96). In 1996, he became vice president of the Koç Holding Tourism Group. From 2000 to 2004, he served as chair in the same group (known as the Tourism and Construction Group from 2003 onwards) and the Consumer Durables and Construction Group between 2004 and 2007. In May 2007, he joined the Koç Holding Board of Directors as CEO. In April 2010, Dr. Bulgurlu transferred the role to Turgay Durak but continues to be a member of the board. Dr. Bulgurlu, who holds the position of life vice president of the Rahmi M. Koç Museology and Culture Foundation, is also a member of the executive boards of companies in the Koç Group, including Arçelik, Beko, Tofaş, RMK Marine, Ford Otosan, and Aygaz.
