Erçelen, Ömür

Erçelen, Ömür (b. December 4, 1964, Ankara), physician and director. In 2015, he was appointed medical director of the Vehbi Koç Foundation (VKV) Healthcare Institutions.

After attending TED Ankara College (1975-81), Erçelen studied medicine at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (1981-87). He completed a residency in anesthesiology and reanimation in the same faculty in 1992. He worked at the Pain Clinic in the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York from 1995 to 1996, before returning to Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, where he became associate professor in 1997.
In 1998, Dr. Erçelen joined the American Hospital and from 2008 to 2010 held the positions of deputy chief physician and responsible director, later serving as chief physician between 2010 and 2014. In 2011, he joined Koç University Hospital as a professor and, in 2015, became medical director of the Vehbi Koç Foundation (VKV) Healthcare Institutions.

A member of the International Association for the Study of Pain and the European Society of Anesthesiology, and a member of the administration board of the Turkish Association for Anesthesiology and Reanimation, Erçelen has published a large number of scientific papers both at home and abroad.
