Galatasaray University Suna Kıraç Library, opened in 1993 at the Galatasaray University (GSU) campus on the site of Feriye Palace in Ortaköy, Istanbul. Since May 2004, it has been housed in a modern building constructed on the Yiğit Okur Campus opposite the palace. Suna Kıraç led efforts to found, equip and finance the library, which has received support from the Vehbi Koç Foundation in the form of book purchases and financial contributions since 1999. The Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation also supports the library with an annual grant.
In November 1995, Suna Kıraç received the Galatasaray Educational Foundation Medallion of Honor for her contribution to the library, and in February 2006, a bust of her was installed at the entrance to the new library building. At the award ceremony in November 1995, the foundation explained why Suna Kıraç was receiving the medal:
“Suna Kıraç sincerely believes that Turkey’s capacity to create with a healthy social awareness will come through education, and that education must meet modern standards. This is not just something she believes, it is something she has physically and spiritually fought for over many years in various educational institutions. Kıraç is, above all else, someone who has committed herself to the cause of education. She donated a library to Galatasaray University, which was founded with the aim of training modern, secular, progressive and distinguished staff; she supported it with a 1.7-million-dollar fund and equipped it with the latest facilities to ensure its continuity. In appreciation of her efforts, the executive board of the Galatasaray Educational Foundation have voted unanimously to award her the Galatasaray Educational Foundation Medallion of Honor and to name her a true ‘Friend of Galatasaray’.”
